DTN COMMENTS:  A light trade is being reported in the South at $230, $6 
higher than last week's weighted average. A few deals are also being 
reported sold in parts of Nebraska at $355, $12 higher than last week's 
weighted average.

A light took place in parts of the North yesterday (NE 16,926 head; IA 
23,219 head) with live deals sporting a range of $350 to $355. It looks 
like most deals were done around $352 to $354, $9 to $11 higher than last 
week's weighted average basis Nebraska.

Today's slaughter totaled 123,000 head, 2,000 more than last week, but 
2,000 less than a year ago. Cattle futures closed sharply higher on both 
live, up 160 to 357 and feeder contracts, up 465 to 502. Beef cutouts are 
expected to close mixed with moderate to good box movement.
